As a group, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience higher rates of sexually transmitted infections, blood-borne viruses, and teen pregnancy than non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. This resource sheet examines evidence on the effectiveness of sexual health education programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It outlines what works, what doesn't, and what further research is needed.

This framework points to the importance of programming for sexual health across the five domains of laws, policies and human rights; education; society and culture; economics; and health. Using a multisectoral rights-based approach, it outlines elements of a programme-based response, together with key entry points for the promotion of sexual health by providing information and support for both broadbased and targeted community education initiatives.
